THANKS TO YOU: Scholarship America launched the Dream Award scholarship program in October, 2013 on Katie Couric’s daytime talk show, Katie.

The Dream Award—Scholarship America’s first national scholarship program—provides scholarship funds for financially needy students who have overcome barriers and successfully started their education; more than 2,300 students applied for the inaugural award.

Scholarships can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on financial need. Even better, each student’s award will increase by $1,000 each year to help them successfully finish school and earn their degrees.

Katie Couric is a committed supporter of Scholarship America, donating the profits from her first book to the Scholarship America Dream Award. On her show, Katie also featured Scholarship America’s founder, Dr. Irving Fradkin.

In addition to a video profile and in-studio interview with Dr. Fradkin, the show provided Dr. Fradkin a surprise: scholarship recipients from 1961 to the present came out to thank him for his life’s work. Katie and Dr. Fradkin also spoke with Hannah Truong, the 2013 Scholarship America Dollars for Scholars Student Volunteer of the Year, who was featured in Scholarship America’s 2013 Annual Report.

Hannah, an active volunteer with Bellingham Dollars for Scholars in Washington, is now attending college at Yale and volunteering in her new community. Scroll down to catch up with Hannah and discover what else we've been up to!
